Our Current Season:

Arms and the Man: by George Bernard Shaw

March 4-6, and 10-13, 2010

Arms And The Man created a huge controversy when it was first performed in 1894. Shaw's pointed and amusing satire of the foolishness of war, of romanticised love and and of the ridiculous notions of class distinction rings as true today in our society as it did in Shaw's England .The characters in the play are broad stereotypes which Shaw masterfully uses to poke fun at the supposed heroics of war, at love based on social standing rather than true feelings, and at the ludicrous belief that somehow common people are less worthy than those to whom an accident of birth has conferred aristocratic status.
Comedy is sometimes the most palatable way to tell the truth. The characters in Arms and the Man take themselves so seriously that we can't help but laugh at them, and that is as Shaw intended.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead: by Tom Stoppard

May 6-8, and 12-15, 2010
